Summer Hunger Programs

Fighting summer hunger

Summertime can put added strain on low-income families whose children receive free and reduced-price lunch during the school year. For example, nearly all (six out of seven) U.S. children who eat a free or reduced-price lunch at school don’t have access to the same nutritious meals during the summer and even fewer have access to breakfast*.

To do our part to help address these needs, Kellogg, our brands and retailer customers partner with non-profit and charity organizations that support summer meal programs. These initiatives work to give children in need in their local communities access to consistent meals when school is not in session.

 In 2022:

  • Kellogg, through the Kellogg Company Fund, donated $100,000 to long-time partner United Way to support programs that offer free summer breakfasts and lunches for children across the U.S.
  • We teamed up with Albertsons, one of the largest food and drug retailers in the U.S., to tackle the ongoing issue of childhood hunger in the communities they serve. ort. We donated a total of $100,000:
    • $50,000 to our partner No Kid Hungry, which could help provide 500,000 meals through donations that help support programs that provide meals to kids.
    • $25,000 to Albertsons Companies Foundation's Nourishing Neighbors in the three communities where the retailer is able to drive the greatest awareness of food insecurity in store.
    • $25,000 to the Albertsons Companies Foundation's new E.A.T. program supporting food security among children.
