Climate action momentum continues after signing Paris Agreement

At Kellogg, we strive to make food people love. And today, that means more than food that tastes great. People care about where their food comes from, the people who grow and make it, and that there’s enough for everyone.

That’s why our leaders engage globally in efforts that help relieve hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture. Consumers are truly at the heart of all we do, and we know these issues are important to them. They are important to us, too.

In December 2015, we proudly participated in the Paris climate change negotiations where we made our own ambitious announcement to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. And last week, we joined more than 100 companies as world leaders formally signed the Paris Agreement at the United Nations in New York City.

In recognition of our dedication to sustainable, responsible business actions, our Chairman and CEO John Bryant has been invited to join a unique coalition of leaders from government, business, international organizations, research institutions and civil society dedicated to reducing food waste. It’s calledChampions 12.3.

We’ve also been invited to join the UN Global Compact’s Caring for Climate Steering Committee. As a committee member and on behalf of Kellogg, I will join 13 other senior business leaders from around the world to discuss and advocate for business’ vital role in climate action.

Partnerships like these help bring attention to important issues that pose risks to our business and the people and communities throughout our global supply chain. Climate change will reduce food productivity and food security at the same time our world's population is growing requiring us to feed more people with fewer natural resources.

This is why Kellogg is working on multiple fronts for the long term health and viability of our ingredients, for our foods which consumers love and trust, and with our leading efforts to reduce food loss and waste. We’re pleased of the progress we’ve made in recent years and that organizations such as Oxfam recognize our efforts, too.

Kellogg leaders, many of which passionately convey the reason we care so much in the video above, remain committed and engaged through a variety of upcoming activities where our leaders will participate. We realize the importance of feeding a growing world population while meeting consumer needs and minimizing environmental impacts.

Last December in Paris, our Chairman and CEO said, “Business must and will step up to protect our planet.” I couldn’t agree more.  At Kellogg, we are working hard to do our part.

We know there is more we can also do outside our Kellogg family to help end discrimination and intolerance.

That’s why Kellogg Company and our Kellogg Company Fund are committing an additional $1 million to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to support the important work they are doing for racial justice.

As we continue to contend with the stress and life-altering disruptions of COVID-19, we are also faced with recent, tragic events in the news – such as the death of George Floyd and many others -- which are emblematic of the discrimination and intolerance that exists across the world in so many heart-breaking ways.
