Sedrun,2. April 2025; Mit der Plangenehmigung des Bundesamts für Verkehr (BAV) vom 28. März 2025 ist der Weg frei für die Erneuerung der Sesselbahnen Val Val – Cuolm Val und Val Val – Calmut. Die neuen Anlagen bringen nicht nur doppelte Förderleistung, sondern sind auch ein zentrales Element für die Skigebietsverbindung zwischen Oberalppass und Milez/Cuolm Val. Der Baustart erfolgt unmittelbar nach der Wintersaison 2024/25. Der Neubau der beiden Sesselbahnen ist ein bedeutender Schritt für die Weiterentwicklung des Skigebiets Andermatt+Sedrun+Disentis und unterstreicht die langfristige Investitionsstrategie von Vail Resorts in Qualität und Gäste-Erlebnis im Wintersport.
Die bestehenden 4er-Sesselbahnen werden durch moderne 6er-Sesselbahnen ersetzt. Die neuen Anlagen verdoppeln die Förderleistung auf 2’400 Personen pro Stunde und verkürzen die Fahrzeiten dank einer höheren Geschwindigkeit von 5 m/s deutlich. Die neue Bahn auf Cuolm Val benötigt nur noch 3.18 Minuten, jene auf Calmut 3.40 Minuten.
Die Geschäftsleitung der Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG hatte bereits im Januar 2022 grünes Licht für die Planung gegeben. Seither wurde das Projekt umfassend vorbereitet: von technischen Abklärungen mit Herstellern, über raumplanerische und architektonische Studien, bis hin zur Koordination mit kantonalen und kommunalen Behörden. Die neuen Anlagen werden von der Fa. Garaventa geplant und erstellt. Die weiteren Planungs- und Ausführungsarbeiten konnten weitgehend an regionale Unternehmungen vergeben werden.
Knapper Zeitplan – enge Koordination erforderlich
Die Bauzeit ist straff geplant: Zwischen dem letzten Betriebstag am Sonntag, 6. April 2025, und der geplanten Eröffnung anfangs Dezember 2025 müssen Rückbau, Montage und Inbetriebnahme der neuen Anlagen sowie der Bau der Lawinenverbauungen erfolgen. Dank Spezialbewilligungen des Kantons Graubünden und der Gemeinde Tujetsch können vorbereitende Massnahmen wie Schneeräumung und Zufahrtserschliessung bereits unmittelbar nach der Wintersaison 2024/25 beginnen.
Ein besonderer Fokus liegt auf der Koordination mit weiteren Baustellen in der Region und der gegenseitigen Rücksichtnahme aller Beteiligten im Gebiet Milez-Cuolm Val. Der Bau der beiden Anlagen und der Lawinenschutzmassnahmen sowie der alpinen Photovoltaik-Anlage Solar Sedrun der Energia Alpina und die Sicherstellung des Erhalts der Betriebsbewilligung bis Ende November 2025 erfordern ein präzises Zusammenspiel aller Partner.

Abschied vom «alten Sessel» am 6. April 2025
Nach über 35 Jahren Betrieb geht am Sonntag, 6. April 2025, eine Ära zu Ende: Die 1988 erbauten Sesselbahnen Val Val – Cuolm Val und Val Val – Calmut werden an diesem Tag zum letzten Mal in Betrieb sein. Zum symbolischen Abschluss fahren Vertreter von Vail Resorts und der Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG mit dem «letzten Sessel» von Val Val auf Cuolm Val.
Alle Gäste sind herzlich eingeladen, diesen Moment gemeinsam zu feiern und bei einem Apéro auf Cuolm Val Abschied von den bisherigen Anlagen zu nehmen.

Construction of New Chairlifts
Val Val – Cuolm Val and Val Val – Calmut to Begin in Spring 2025
Sedrun, April 2, 2025 – With the planning approval granted by the Swiss Federal Office of Transport (FOT) on March 28, 2025, the path is now clear for the renewal of the chairlifts Val Val – Cuolm Val and Val Val – Calmut. The new installations will not only double transport capacity but also serve as a key element in connecting the ski areas between the Oberalp Pass and Milez/Cuolm Val. Construction will begin immediately after the 2024/25 winter season. The construction of the two new chairlifts marks a significant step in the development of the Andermatt+Sedrun+Disentis ski area and highlights Vail Resorts' long-term investment strategy focused on quality and guest experience in winter sports.
The existing 4-seater chairlifts will be replaced with modern 6-seater ones. The new lifts will double the transport capacity to 2,400 people per hour and significantly reduce travel times thanks to a higher speed of 5 m/s. The new lift to Cuolm Val will take just 3.18 minutes, while the one to Calmut will take 3.40 minutes.
The management of Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG gave the green light for planning back in January 2022. Since then, the project has been comprehensively prepared, including technical evaluations with manufacturers, spatial planning and architectural studies, and coordination with cantonal and municipal authorities. The new lifts will be designed and built by Garaventa. Most of the further planning and construction work has been awarded to regional companies.
Tight Schedule – Close Coordination Required
The construction schedule is ambitious: Between the last day of operations on Sunday, April 6, 2025, and the planned opening in early December 2025, dismantling, assembly, commissioning of the new lifts, and construction of avalanche protection must all be completed. Thanks to special permits from the Canton of Graubünden and the municipality of Tujetsch, preparatory work such as snow clearing and access road construction can begin immediately after the 2024/25 winter season.
Particular focus is placed on coordinating with other construction projects in the region and ensuring mutual consideration among all parties in the Milez-Cuolm Val area. The construction of the two lifts and avalanche protection measures, the alpine photovoltaic system Solar Sedrun by Energia Alpina, and securing the operating permit until the end of November 2025 require precise collaboration among all partners.

Farewell to the "Old Chair" on April 6, 2025
After over 35 years in service, an era will come to an end on Sunday, April 6, 2025: the chairlifts Val Val – Cuolm Val and Val Val – Calmut, built in 1988, will run for the last time. To mark the occasion, representatives from Vail Resorts and Andermatt-Sedrun Sport AG will take a symbolic “last chair” ride from Val Val to Cuolm Val.
All guests are warmly invited to join in celebrating this moment and to say goodbye to the current lifts with a farewell aperitif at Cuolm Val.
