Why do people love working for Kellogg Company? Just ask Sharon, an IT Administrative Assistant, who recently celebrated 50 years with the company.
“When I started working, it was considered a ‘badge of honor’ to commit your time and talent to one company,” she says. “I stayed with Kellogg because this company is a world-recognized brand. And I still enjoy coming to work, every single day.”
In 1964, Sharon began working at Keebler. She transitioned to Kellogg when the cereal maker acquired the cookie and cracker company in 2001.
Recently, Sharon was honored for her 50 years of service during an annual ceremony celebrating long-term Kellogg employees with service of 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50 years of service.
Longevity of service is common at Kellogg, where it’s not unusual for multiple generations of family members to have served their entire careers, from hire to retire, as Kellogg employees. However, a standing ovation demonstrated that Sharon’s five-decades of service is truly a remarkable achievement.
To mark the occasion, Sharon shared her thoughts:
On employee longevity at Kellogg: “I’ve met so many multi-generational employees whose family members also worked here. That kind of loyalty and retention really shows what a great company we work for.”
On the importance of K Values: “These are my guideposts. I feel proud that everyone here at Kellogg embraces these values as a way of doing business within our communities, and with each other.”
Her advice for those entering the workforce: “Embrace all opportunities presented to you, and make the best of them. And be sure to share your knowledge with your coworkers, so the whole team can benefit from your expertise.”
Her favorite brand character: “It’s a tie between Ernie the Elf from my Keebler days and Tony the Tiger. I love them both. I actually think of Ernie and Tony as cousins!”
