DiversityInc honor comes as Kellogg introduces new employee group

Jessica W. grew up watching her father assist blind individuals in learning to become more independent in the community. Her experiences as a child, and the relationships formed with her friends who had visual and hearing impairments, left an indelible impression on her.

Next week, Jessica and a group of like-minded, passionate Kellogg employees will introduce a new employee resource group and they’re calling it Kapable.

True to the company’s vision of helping families to flourish and thrive, Kapable will focus on nurturing a welcoming and inclusive environment for current and future employees who have disabilities.  Many of the employees leading the effort, Jessica included, have been personally impacted by a disability or care for someone among the 56 million people currently living with a disability in the United States.

Kapable will be Kellogg Company’s eighth employee resource group (ERG). An ERG is an employee-led voluntary group that works to help Kellogg be a company of choice in the workplace, marketplace and communities we serve.  They help to recruit, engage and retain talent by providing networking, development and opportunities for people to share collective experiences. ERGs also provide valuable insights to the business in helping to reflect the consumers we serve.

Kapable is just the latest step in Kellogg Company’s ongoing diversity and inclusion journey. It reinforces the company’s respect and value for helping all individuals bring their best selves to work. And it’s because of efforts such as this that Kellogg was ranked No. 26 among the Top 50 Companies for Diversity in the United States, as announced today by DiversityInc.

Mark King, the company’s Global Head of Diversity & Inclusion, said Kellogg is honored to be on the DiversityInc list for a fifth consecutive year. He also said the company uses the report card provided by DiversityInc to identify areas for continuous improvement.

As we continue to contend with the stress and life-altering disruptions of COVID-19, we are also faced with recent, tragic events in the news – such as the death of George Floyd and many others -- which are emblematic of the discrimination and intolerance that exists across the world in so many heart-breaking ways.
