By the Numbers: A Snapshot of World Food Day at Kellogg
Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs, Kellogg Company

There’s a powerful quote from our founder, W.K. Kellogg, that I’ve been thinking about recently:

One of the most beneficial services that could be bestowed upon civilization is to make the lives of little children happier, healthier and more promising for their adult years.

As the founder of an iconic food company, Mr. Kellogg has made incredible contributions to our society. But what resonates deeply with me is Mr. Kellogg’s profound commitment to corporate citizenship: bringing to life his vision for happy and healthy children across communities.

As the head of Corporate Affairs for Kellogg Company, I’m committed to upholding this tradition of good corporate citizenship every single day. Recently, Kellogg employees celebrated World Food Day around the world to activate our Breakfasts for Better Days global signature cause, aimed at fighting hunger. Hundreds of employees and community volunteers were on the ground packing food bundles for our local food banks, collecting food donations, visiting children’s Breakfast Clubs, and even engaging creative social media notices about hunger relief initiatives. Here is a snapshot of a few ways that we created Better Days for children and families as we commemorated World Food Day 2017:

Number of countries that hosted volunteer events: 22

Number of food banks we supported around the world: 38

Number of volunteers from communities around the world: 539

Number of hours volunteered by Kellogg employees: 1,388

Total servings of food donated: 1,152,076

And we’re not stopping. We’re passionate about fighting hunger and feeding potential all year round. We’re committed to creating 3 Billion Better Days by 2025, and we’re well on our way to reaching that number. And we encourage you to consider getting involved. Join us in fighting hunger by donating to your local food bank or volunteering your time at a soup kitchen. And tell us how you’re helping create Better Days in your community by sharing one of the below images on social media and tagging #BetterDays and @KelloggCompany.

We know there is more we can also do outside our Kellogg family to help end discrimination and intolerance.

That’s why Kellogg Company and our Kellogg Company Fund are committing an additional $1 million to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to support the important work they are doing for racial justice.

As we continue to contend with the stress and life-altering disruptions of COVID-19, we are also faced with recent, tragic events in the news – such as the death of George Floyd and many others -- which are emblematic of the discrimination and intolerance that exists across the world in so many heart-breaking ways.
