To say that Alfred is a safe driver is quite the understatement.
In his 34 years driving a tractor trailer for Kellogg, Alfred has gone 1.7 million miles without a single safety incident. He also maintains a record of being on-time and extremely efficient.
In recognition of his exceptional commitment to safety, compliance and customer service, Alfred was recently honored by the National Private Truck Council (NPTC) as one of 16 National Driver All-Stars at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The NPTC is the only trade association in the United States devoted exclusively to the interests of the private corporate trucking fleet industry and its professional practitioners.
The Council represents a cross-section of American manufacturers, distributors, retailers and public service organizations ranging in size from family-owned small businesses and town utility fleets to Fortune 500 global conglomerates.
To mark the occasion, Alfred shared his thoughts:
…On maintaining his amazing safety record: “I’ve been driving for the Kellogg Company for more than 34 years now, and in that time, I haven’t even had a single traffic ticket. I attribute it to my careful and thoughtful nature. Even when I was a kid in high school, I was always cautious when I was behind the wheel.”
…On the biggest challenges he faces when it comes to safety: “Without a doubt, construction zones are the toughest to handle because the lanes are narrower, which makes maneuvering a 32-, 48- or 53-foot truck pretty tricky. On top of that, you always have to be on the lookout for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as other vehicles. Toss in some bad weather and you really have to stay focused.”
...His advice for anyone interested in improving their driving safety: “First and foremost, be sure to get plenty of sleep. If you don’t get enough sleep, you can’t focus and that makes you ripe for an incident. Also, be prepared. Check the weather forecast and road conditions ahead of time. Then adjust for the conditions. This is where my cautious nature comes in. If the roads are icy or slick from rain, I slow down. It might be boring to go slow, but you’ll end up avoiding lots of problems.”
…On what it means to be named a National Driver All-Stars by the NPTC: “I was extremely honored to receive this recognition. Plus my wife and I really enjoyed the four-day trip to Washington for the ceremony.”
