Wounded Warrior Project Veterans Bond on Snowy Banks

BARTLETT, N.H., Feb. 15, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- While many people opt to ride out the winter indoors, Wounded Warrior Project^® (WWP) veterans recently met the frigid conditions head-on. During a guided snowmobile tour of the White Mountains, participants enjoyed trying something new while forming connections with fellow service members.

A pair of experienced guides led warriors and guests on the two-hour adventure. Army veteran Yanai Liberman was eager to view the New Hampshire landscape from a fresh perspective.

"I have been living up north for a while, but I've never seen it on a snowmobile," he said. "It was encouraging to meet other veterans who share the same enthusiasm about getting together and being active in the community."

Connection activities minimize social isolation by getting warriors out and engaged with others – in settings that accommodate physical injuries and social anxieties. At these gatherings, veterans have the chance to recapture the bonds experienced during military service. In a WWP survey of the injured warriors it serves, more than half of survey respondents (51.7 percent) talked with fellow veterans to address their mental health issues.

"Wounded Warrior Project events give me an opportunity to interact with other veterans, which is something I need in my life," Yanai said. "It has made me want to help more people, so I have gone through training to become a mentor with the Peer Support program."

WWP offers a variety of programs that assist injured veterans with mental health, physical health and wellness, career and benefits counseling, and connecting with other warriors. Generous donors make it possible for wounded warriors to take part in outreach activities and benefit from program resources at no cost to them.
