Wounded Warrior Project Helps Houston Veterans File Benefits Claims

Warriors Meet Face-to-Face with VA Representatives

HOUSTON, Dec. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Veterans with service-related health issues recently received critical, instant relief when Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) teamed up with Combined Arms, which has a mission to unite the community to accelerate the impact of veterans, to hold a Benefits Claims Day in Houston. The innovative gathering helped warriors quickly obtain needed care by placing them face-to-face with a WWP staff member and a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) representative, who directly impacts the outcome of their medical claims.

With long-term financial and health support playing a crucial, empowering role in the recovery process, WWP created the Benefits Services program, helping injured veterans navigate the complexities of the Department of Defense and VA. With the support of generous donors, WWP reaches out to local communities through a variety of events, filing thousands of claims each year and immediately changing the lives of injured veterans, their families, and caregivers. Benefits Claims Day is one of the events gaining traction across the nation as an innovative collaboration between WWP and VA.

"This Claims Day was by far our most successful and collaborative event thus far," said Jim Roos, WWP Benefits Services regional director. "We were able to work with many community partners and also sink our influence deeper into the VA. It has only been a few days since the event, and we have already seen lives changed. Many more claims will roll in throughout the coming days and weeks, and the impact will continue to grow."

As a VA-accredited organization, WWP works individually with warriors to understand their unique needs, provide information and education on the claims process, advise them of benefit options, file benefit claims, and help obtain necessary evidence. The staff stays connected with these injured veterans through the entire claims life cycle.

The success of the WWP Benefits Services program lies in its efforts to ensure claims are filed and processed correctly – the first time.
