When the Mazda CX-9 made its world debut back in 2006, it was an epiphany: A midsize three-row crossover SUV that defied the conventional design cues and cumbersome driving experience expected of vehicles in its class.
The new, second generation Mazda CX-9 is the grandest expression of KODO—Soul of Motion design yet and the high-end model of Mazda’s new-generation lineup. Its cachet is elevated with a proud front fascia that cascades into crisp lines that flow to the rear. Its interior is nothing short of breathtaking, with available Auburn-colored Nappa leather, Japanese rosewood and aluminum. The focus was on authenticity; an experience rather than simply another commodity conveyance.
With the new CX-9, engineers sought to instill driving dynamics befitting of a Mazda—agile handling, tight steering and a responsive, controllable powertrain. To do this, they found smart solutions to keep CX-9’s structure light, yet rigid, with SKYACTIV Technology. They developed a new turbocharged SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine that delivers instant throttle response, class-leading torque and best-in-class EPA-estimated combined fuel economy at 9.5 litres per 100 kilometres (L/100km) when equipped with front-wheel drive .
The 2016 CX-9 arrived in dealerships midway through 2016, and the initial demand has not slowed down for a minute, setting a sales record for best full-year sales ever, eclipsing the previous sales record set in 2007 For 2017, CX-9 continues where it started less than a year ago with minimal changes. Entry CX-9 GS trim level remains unchanged, starting at $35,600 and includes standard equipment such as push-button start, SKYACTIV-G 2.5T engine with class-leading standard torque (310 lb-ft), auto-levelling LED headlights, LED rear combination lights, 3-zone auto climate control, rear climate control with display, noise-isolating front glass, and electronic parking brake. Mazda’s predictive i-ACTIV AWD ($2,500) is the sole option available for the GS trim.
The mid-tier CX-9 GS-L carries over the starting price of $41,500 and is now equipped with Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) and auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror, which was previously in an optional package. CX-9 GS-L includes all equipment from GS, and also includes a power glass moonroof, leather upholstery, advanced blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, power liftgate, heated steering wheel, and other goodies. No optional packages are available for the CX-9 GS-L.
Luxury is in view with the CX-9 GT ($45,500), which features 20-inch alloy wheels, Bose® premium audio with 12 speakers, navigation, windshield-projected Active Driving Display, driver seat memory, LED front and rear signature lighting, and adaptive front lighting system. An optional Technology Package ($1,600) introduces the full suite of i-ACTIVSENSE safety technology which includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control, Smart Brake Support, Distance Recognition Support System, Forward Obstruction Warning, Lane Departure Warning System, Lane Keep Assist, and High Beam Control.
The CX-9 Signature ($50,100) is the epitome of Mazda premium, adding luxury touches such as rich chroma brown Nappa leather upholstery, premium leather stitching detail, open-pore rosewood centre console panel and door pull panel, LED cabin and accent lighting, and signature grille illumination.
All 2017 CX-9s come standard with Mazda’s Unlimited Mileage Warranty, which allows the driver to drive as much as they want, as far as they want without worrying about going over the mileage limit. The basic warranty for Mazda vehicles covers all parts found to be factory defective for 3 years, regardless of the number of kilometers driven. Additional warranties cover Powertrain components for a period of 5 years, unlimited mileage; body sheet metal perforation for 7 years, unlimited mileage; and roadside assistance for 3 years, unlimited mileage.
With the 3-year roadside assistance program, customers can feel secure knowing that wherever they travel throughout North America they can obtain towing, winching, battery boosting, emergency fuel delivery, and tire changing services if needed. They will even get help if locked out of the vehicle. Travel planning services and emergency travel expense reimbursement are included in the roadside assistance program.
