The smallest iteration of Mazda’s SKYACTIV-generation lineup might just be one of its mightiest, as the 2017 CX-3 returns for its second model year a proven companion for whatever the road may throw its way—from urban sprawl to the wilds of winter or the Great Outdoors. CX-3 boasts a very strong resumé after just one year on the market, laying claim to the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada’s 2017 Utility Vehicle of the Year award, and 2017 Green Utility Vehicle of the Year, along with its finalist status as a 2016 World Car Design of the Year candidate alongside the eventual winner, Mazda’s own MX-5 roadster.
Debuting at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, CX-3 was developed to “Create the standard for the next era.” It’s a vehicle designed to meet the needs of a new generation of car buyers, supporting creative, adventurous lifestyles.
CX-3 is shorter and lower than Mazda’s popular CX-5 crossover, but delivers a similarly upmarket experience with its available predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel drive, a punchy 146-horsepower, 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G engine and Mazda’s i-ACTIVSENSE safety features available, including lane-departure warning, rear cross-traffic alert, Smart City Brake Support, rear camera, and advanced blind spot monitoring system.
CX-3 is tailored to deliver a rich, inviting experience not just for its driver, but also for its passengers, with rear seats set slightly inboard to ease conversation between front and rear passengers. It is a vehicle with interior details that look and feel as elegant as they are forward-thinking, from the dark red seat stitching to the soft touch materials. And it is a vehicle that carries itself with style, with a long hood, short overhangs, large wheels and a slim cabin, presenting proportions that lend themselves to a sense of strength and vitality, conveying a sense of motion even when standing still.
For 2017, CX-3 continues its successful formula. Entry CX-3 GX trim level remains unchanged, starting at $20,695 and includes standard equipment such as push-button start, 6-speed SKYACTIV-Drive automatic transmission, air conditioning, 7-inch touchscreen display with Mazda Connect and HMI, and rearview camera. The mid-level CX-3 GS also soldiers on for the second year unchanged with a starting price of $22,695 for the front-wheel drive model. CX-3 GS includes all equipment from GX, and ups the ante with 16-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, rain-sensing wipers, automatic on/off headlights, and much more. A Luxury Package ($1,500) is available for the GS, which adds a power moonroof, leatherette-trimmed upholstery, and interior design accents. Mazda’s predictive i-ACTIV AWD system is a standalone option that can be added to both GX and GS trims for $2,000.
And as for the CX-3 GT? It’s more of the same subcompact crossover that’s won over fans, owners and media worldwide. With a suggested MSRP of $28,995, AWD becomes standard, along with leather and Lux Suede® trimmed upholstery, LED headlights with signature lighting, LED fog lights, and LED rear combination lights. GT trim also features navigation, Bose® audio system with 7 speakers, Active Driving Display (ADD), auto climate control, and more.
All 2017 CX-3s come standard with Mazda’s Unlimited Mileage Warranty, which allows the driver to drive as much as they want, as far as they want without worrying about going over the mileage limit. The basic warranty for Mazda vehicles covers all parts found to be factory defective for 3 years, regardless of the number of kilometers driven. Additional warranties cover Powertrain components for a period of 5 years, unlimited mileage; body sheet metal perforation for 7 years, unlimited mileage; and roadside assistance for 3 years, unlimited mileage.
With the 3-year roadside assistance program, customers can feel secure knowing that wherever they travel throughout North America they can obtain towing, winching, battery boosting, emergency fuel delivery, and tire changing services if needed. They will even get help if locked out of the vehicle. Travel planning services and emergency travel expense reimbursement are included in the roadside assistance program.
