(Richmond Hill, ON): To commemorate forty years of Mazda rotary engine vehicles sold globally, Mazda Canada Inc. has come out with a limited edition model Mazda RX-8: the 2008 40th Anniversary RX-8 Special Edition. Since the 1967 introduction of Mazda’s first vehicle powered by a rotary engine, the Cosmo Sport, Mazda has continued to produce and sell various rotary engine-powered cars, most notably the Familia Rotary Coupe (R100), the Savanna (RX-3), RX-7, and Eunos Cosmo. The 2008 40th Anniversary RX-8 Special Edition model is based on the 2008 RX-8 GT with six-speed manual transmission. The exclusive Metropolitan Grey exterior colour, Rotary 40th Anniversary Emblems mounted on both front fenders, unique design bright finish 18” alloy wheels and blue-tint foglamps are perfectly suited to commemorate the fortieth year of Mazda’s rotary engine vehicle sales. The interior, designed to evoke the Cosmo Sport heritage, sports a black leather interior with copper red accented door inserts and bolstered seats. The steering wheel, MT shift knob and parking brake lever also adorn black leather with black stitching. Special equipment – including exclusive Bilstein dampers and a urethane foam-filled front suspension cross member – has been fitted for a higher quality ride and better performance. The manufacturer’s suggested retail price of the 2008 40th Anniversary RX-8 Special Edition is $42,145. Production is limited to 100 units for the Canadian market and goes on sale in February 2008. Like all Mazda models, the 2008 40th Anniversary RX-8 Special Edition is covered by a 3-year or 80,000 km vehicle warranty that covers every part of the vehicle except those subject to normal wear, and a 3-year roadside assistance program. Additional warranties cover powertrain and safety restraint components for a period of 3 years or 80,000 km, body sheet metal perforation for 5 years unlimited kilometres and selected emission control components for 8 years or 128,000 km.
