The IDC report top-ranked IBM across all three Application Management Services (AMS) categories: #1 in Worldwide Discrete, #1 in U.S. Discrete, and #1 in Consolidated (Discrete + Bundled), for the third year in a row. ("Discrete" refers to AMS work done on a stand-alone basis or through a separate contract with the client, and "bundled" refers to AMS work performed as part of a broader infrastructure contract.)

The report states that IBM leads in the Worldwide market share category with year-over-year growth of 12.8 percent, and that IBM also leads in the U.S. Discrete category. According to the report, IBM also continued to hold a significant lead in Consolidated AMS revenue, offering market-leading integrated or discrete service options to help clients address efficiency, cost and portfolio modernization options.

Clients benefitting from IBM's AMS services include Sprint, which has engaged IBM to perform application development, maintenance and testing services. Through this engagement Sprint is achieving lower operating costs, reduced cycle times and improved time to market.

"As the number and complexity of applications grow, application management, maintenance and development are increasingly important to an enterprise's bottom line," said Colleen Arnold, Senior Vice President, Application Management Services, IBM Global Business Services. "We continue to help clients advance their competitive positions and capture growth opportunities by infusing new technology, assets and innovation across our AMS portfolio in ways that help clients minimize cost of ownership, increase application flexibility and improve performance levels."
