Evergy advisors assist with energy fund applications
Community visits help low income families access federal program

TOPEKA, Kan. (Dec 30, 2019) – Evergy customer affairs advisors are assisting Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) applicants over the upcoming weeks throughout the communities we serve.

Evergy customer advisors have partnered with community service organizations to provide on-site support for more than 3,500 households applying for LIEAP funds since 2010. Applications are being accepted through March 31, 2020. 

A schedule to receive assistance is included, but dates are subject to change. A current schedule is posted at Evergy.com. Applicants will need utility account numbers, proof of income and Social Security numbers for all members of their household.

“The on-site assistance our advisors lend, can help make the difference in applications being reviewed and processed more quickly than those that might have errors,” said Lori Shaffer, senior manager, customer & community affairs. “Being able to work alongside our community partners and serve customers in a direct way, is very rewarding and helps reach customers who might not otherwise know about the program.”    

LIEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs by providing a one-time per year benefit. LIEAP applications on the Kansas Dept for Children and Families website will not be available until January 2, 2020.
