Apr 10, 2014

NEW YORK, April 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- BNY Mellon, a global leader in investment management and investment services, has appointed Monique Herena senior executive vice president and chief human resources officer for the company, effective April 28, 2014. Herena will lead the company's global Human Resources organization and direct the strategies, policies and practices supporting the company's more than 50,000 employees.

Monique Herena Appoints BNY Mellon's Chief HR Officer

Herena will report to Gerald L. Hassell, BNY Mellon's chairman and chief executive officer, and serve on the Executive Committee, the company's most senior management body, which oversees day to day operations. Herena will succeed Lisa Peters, who is retiring after 32 years with the company.

Herena joins BNY Mellon from PepsiCo Inc., where she was senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Global Beverages, Global Foods, Global Functions and Corporate. In that role, she directed the human resources programs and strategy in support of the company's global operating model and innovation programs, including executing change management processes aimed at driving business performance globally.

Herena joined PepsiCo in 2001, and held a series of increasingly senior roles, including senior vice president and chief human resources officer for Asia, Middle East and Africa, based in Dubai, from 2010 to 2013 and chief human resources officer for the Quaker, Tropicana and Gatorade divisions of PepsiCo from 2006 to 2010. Prior to her tenure at PepsiCo, she managed human resource functions at Allied Signal/Honeywell and The Quaker Oats Company.

"Monique joins us with an impressive track record of leadership and results in overseeing the human resources functions at large, globally diverse organizations," said Hassell. "Her experience with and commitment to developing a high-performance culture linked to business success, organizational effectiveness and innovation will serve our organization well as we continue to grow our position as the investments company for the world."

Peters joined Mellon Financial Corp. in 1982, and advanced through a variety of management positions in legal and corporate affairs, special banking services, retail risk management and compliance and human resources. When Mellon Financial and The Bank of New York merged in 2007, Peters was instrumental in ensuring a smooth post-merger integration. As BNY Mellon's chief human resources officer, Peters developed and executed a human resources strategy that allowed the company to provide competitive benefits, prudently govern compensation practices, steadily enhance development opportunities for employees, establish diversity and inclusion as a global priority, and promote employee engagement and cultural change.

"I want to sincerely thank Lisa Peters for her more than 30 years of outstanding leadership and dedication to our company," Hassell said.
