SUN CITY, Ariz. (April 9, 2019) — Banner Boswell Medical Center is making health care easier for its patients in the West Valley with the groundbreaking of a new and long-awaited emergency department (ED), from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10 at Banner Boswell Medical Center, 10401 W. Thunderbird Blvd., Sun City.

Both Banner Boswell and Sun Health Foundation will be hosting this ceremonial groundbreaking media event, themed Back to the Future. Local community leaders, both past and present, who have been instrumental in leading, delivering and supporting health care will be on hand to help break ground.

Last year, both Banner Boswell and Sun Health announced that $60.4 million in funds had been approved by Banner Health’s board of directors for the construction project. Plans for this investment include a new 40,000-square-foot ED, providing 33-percent more patient beds and faster, easier access for patients, and a renovation which will convert the current 17,000-square-foot ED into a new unit for patients requiring short-term observation.

In addition, the completed project will further position Banner Boswell for the future by creating a shelled space for future build-out of a new cardiac catheterization lab and constructing a structural foundation under the new ED to allow for a future patient tower to be built partially on top of it. Banner Boswell’s new ED is expected to be completed next year, coinciding with the hospital’s 50th anniversary.

Media interested in attending the groundbreaking event on Wednesday, April 10, please RSVP to: linda.tyler@sunhealth.org or media@bannerhealth.com.
