    AARP poll reveals 7 in 10 spend less time with friends and more than half spend less time with other family members

    WASHINGTON, D.C.—A new AARP poll on dementia care takes a closer look at the experiences of family caregivers for those with dementia and found more than half say their social life has suffered and nearly 45 percent say they feel alone. In addition, they are more likely to grow further apart from the ones they care for and other family members because of their caregiving responsibilities. Both social isolation and loneliness are linked to poorer physical and mental health outcomes.

According to the survey, those who travel reported better emotional and physical health and improved relationships and productivity at work. Additionally, overall well-being is one of the biggest advantages of travel, with the benefits starting during the initial travel planning phase and extending well beyond the trip. The longest lasting travel benefit reported is improved relationships with loved ones – lasting six weeks on average.

    Significant Majorities of Older Voters Concerned About Health Care Access and Cost

    WASHINGTON, DC—In a newly released Politico-AARP poll, Pennsylvania voters age 50 and older say health care and personal finance issues will be top of mind this election season. The poll found health care (97 percent), Social Security (96 percent) and Medicare (95 percent) will be critical in determining how they vote in elections this fall and a strong majority want elected officials to take action to lower health care (92 percent) and prescription drug costs (91 percent).
