CHANHASSEN, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--An estimated 10,000 participants, including members of Team USA Minnesota dressed as turkeys, will take part in the Life Time Fitness (NYSE: LTM) Turkey Day 5K in Downtown Minneapolis on Thursday, November 25. This 21-year festive holiday tradition starts the Thanksgiving Holiday off right with a USAT-certified run and morning fun walk for people of all ages starting at 8:20 a.m. The top 20 finishers beating the Team USA Minnesota turkeys will receive a special holiday surprise, a pumpkin pie.
The Life Time Fitness Foundation will collect non-perishable food donations prior to the race to support Second Harvest Heartland. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from each race registration will be donated to Second Harvest Heartland through the Life Time Fitness Foundation. In 2009, race participants helped collect 6,217 pounds of much-needed food for the non-profit.
As part of the event, kids of age three- to eight-years old may enjoy a Kids Carnival featuring fun fitness activities and games from 7:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. in the Life Time Fitness Target Center gymnasium. Kids also can take part in their very own indoor Turkey Day Kids 1K, starting at 9 a.m.
Registration for the Turkey Day 5K is still open and available at several running specialty stores, including TC Running Company (Eden Prairie), Start Line (Minnetonka), Right Fit Running (Mounds View), Runner’s Gate (Lakeville), Run-n-Fun (Burnsville and St. Paul) and REI (Bloomington, Maple Grove and Roseville). Race entry is also available online at www.turkeyday-5k.com until midnight on November 23, or on race day at the Target Center on the upper concourse level.
