Snake River Festival Back to its Roots at Keystone Resort
KEYSTONE, Colo. — June 24, 2013 —Born almost twenty years ago, the Snake River Festival presented by Warriors Cycling and Rocky Mountain Endurance Series (RME), is back at Keystone Resort Saturday, June 29 through Sunday, June 30 with a weekend full of dynamic and beneficial activities. Guests can test their skills in a number of mountain biking races, take in the stunning natural setting during outdoor yoga classes, and soak in the cuteness of a children’s balance bike race. The weekend will be filled with high-energy mountain recreation, allowing guests to tap into their inner athlete or outdoor enthusiast in a gorgeous Rocky Mountain environment.
 
Kicking-off the festival Saturday, June 29 the Snake River Mountain Challenge will test individual’s stamina and endurance during a number of grueling cross-country courses that encompass the entire Keystone Mountain Bike Park. Saturday’s Divisions Run As Follows:
  • Marathon –  ~ 3 laps, 54 miles
  • Half Marathon –  ~ 2 laps, 36 miles
  • XC –  ~ 1 lap, 18 miles
  • Half XC –  ~ Half lap, 10 miles
  • Juniors – mileage and course vary according to age. 17-18 race XC. 13-16 race Half XC. 11-12 race shortened course approx 6 miles.

For those who are inclined to take their Saturday at a slower pace, the Festival will be offering up plenty of entertaining and relaxing activities for both adults and children. Free live music will begin Saturday at 1p.m. in River Run Village featuring Danna Rocks, coupled with an Oskar Blues Beer Garden and food to enjoy while jamming out and relaxing in the sun. Kids can enjoy a bounty of festivities such as free face painting and caricature drawings, as well as paid activities including the Keystone Kidz Zone featuring a bouncy house, bungee trampolines and gem panning.
 
Sunday will include a wider range of Festival events geared towards families, such as a progressive bike skills clinic, yoga in the Quaking Aspen Amphitheatre, a children’s balance bike race and recreational guided group mountain bike rides, all free for Snake River Festival attendees. Kid’s activities will again run throughout the day as well as a free concert featuring the infamous 80’s Six Million Dollar band.
 
This year’s event returns the Snake River Festival to its origins at Keystone Resort, where the event began almost 20 years ago. Attendees will appreciate the Resort’s long-standing mountain bike tradition in both a challenging and enjoyable way. The festival atmosphere and range of events will provide something for all guests; from seasoned mountain bikers to beginners and families too. 1:00 p.m. Warriors Kids Race for 10 and under
1:00 - 5:30 p.m. Live Music in River Run, Oskar Blues Beer Garden and Food
1:30 p.m. XC, Half XC and Junior Awards
3:00 p.m. Marathon, Half Marathon Awards
Sunday:
8:00 – 11:00 a.m. Registration and Check-in for free Sunday activities.
9:00 a.m. Progressive Bike Skills Clinic
10:00 a.m. Yoga in Quaking Aspen Ampitheatre
10:00 a.m. Kidz Zone open, bouncy house, face painting, kids activities all day
11:30 a.m.-1:30p.m. Recreational Guided Group Rides for all abilities

2:00 p.m. Balance Bike Race for not-yet pedaling kids
Lodging for the weekend starts at just $144 per night in one of Keystone’s slopeside condominiums. Guests can choose from an array of accommodation options, as well as enjoy all of Keystone’s exciting summer activities throughout the weekend.
 
Please note, the Keystone Mountain Bike Park will be closed to the public until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29 for the Snake River Mountain Challenge. The Park will reopen from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. with bike haul tickets available for just $15. The Bike Park will be open to the public for normal operations beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 30.
