If the kids need a new bike, parents need to investigate the “Kid’s Trade-Up” program that allows parents to keep their children on the right size bike year after year and get up to 40 percent off original purchase on new bikes within two years of first purchase. The program is similar to the highly successful Junior Trade In ski exchange offered during the winter months at Colorado Ski & Golf with the same goal—to keep growing kids on updated equipment at an affordable price.
When it comes to adults, “we discuss the benefits of each bike category—mountain, road, cruiser, hybrid, or fitness to help customers decide what they are actually looking for,” explains Mike Anthony, regional manager for Bicycle Village. “You’d be surprised how many people are very uncertain about what kind of bike they want and the features they are looking for,” he added.
Working with an experienced cyclist helps customer’s identify the safety and comfort features that match their goals and budget. And before taking the new bike for a spin, the staff at Bicycle Village emphasize that the bike should be fitted correctly and safety checked. That Basic Fitting is free and includes taking the time to adjust the saddle height, evaluate the handlebar height, the stem reach, and the rider’s posture. Plus, all new bike purchases include a lifetime of free tune-ups to keep the bike in top spinning condition.
Novice cyclists (whether they purchase at Bicycle Village or not) can also take advantage of the free bike maintenance clinics held the first Monday of every month at 6pm at all Bicycle Village locations—Aurora, Westminster, Littleton, Boulder, and Colorado Springs. The 60-minute sessions will help riders learn how to change flat tires and learn simple skills for safer and more comfortable pedaling. Advanced classes with hands-on skill building will launch this spring. Plus, weather permitting, a free, guided group ride open to all cyclists leaves from every Bicycle Village location every Saturday morning throughout the year at 9am—but in summer months they start earlier. Fun, fitness, camaraderie, and training support have made these weekly rides a popular event for cyclists for more than nine years. Each store has several ride leaders and routes range from 15-80 miles depending on the group size and ability. On busy weekends, several rides are offered to bring together groups of similar abilities.
Back to shopping. The best deals start in early March. Bicycle Village offers three Deals on Wheels events on three March weekends. The signature event at the Aurora location under the big tent is held March 2-3 starting at 9am Saturday and 10am Sunday. More than 3,000 road and mountain bikes are marked up to 60 percent off and during the tent sale at 2802 S. Havana in Aurora. This is the single largest bike sale in Colorado and features models from top manufacturers such as Trek, Bianchi, Raleigh and Scott. Prices start at $99.99 for Trek rental bikes sold “as is.” Every new bike purchase includes free lifetime adjustments. A selection of bike models and sizes for kids will also be on sale—including enrollment and exchanges in the Kids Trade Up program.
The same great cross section of inventory, prices, and services moves to the Colorado Springs Bicycle Village store at 2450 Montebello Square Drive March 9-10 starting at 9am on Saturday. The sale series winds up March 23-24 at the Boulder Bicycle Village at 2100 28th Street Boulder. In addition to bikes, the latest technology, gear, clothing, and accessories range from 20-70 percent off at all three events.
