Vail Resorts, Inc. Rings NYSE Opening Bell Remotely from the Base of Vail Mountain in Vail, Colo.
VAIL, Colo.—Jan. 7, 2013—Today, Vail Resorts, Inc. (NYSE: MTN) commemorated the 50th anniversary of both the Company and its flagship resort, Vail Mountain, by ringing the NYSE Opening Bell remotely from the base of the iconic mountain resort. Vail Resorts became a member of the NYSE community of listed companies on Feb. 4, 1997.

Vail Resorts Chairman and CEO Rob Katz and NYSE Executive Vice President Scott Cutler rang the bell alongside members of Vail Resorts’ executive committee. For this special occasion, the Opening Bell was hung within snow sculpted in the shape of the letters ‘VAIL’. The sculpture was designed by artist and Colorado native, Rick Seeley, who has been carving snow professionally for the past 10 years.

This marks the third time that Vail Resorts has participated in the Opening Bell ceremony. The first occasion took place on Feb. 4, 1997, the day the company’s stock began trading on the NYSE. The second was on Dec. 5, 2008, from the finish area of the Men’s World Cup Downhill Racecourse at the company’s Beaver Creek Resort in Colorado.

“It’s truly an honor to ring this specially-designed Opening Bell of the New York Stock Exchange for the third time in Vail for both our company’s and the ski resort’s 50th anniversary season,” said Rob Katz, Vail Resorts chairman and chief executive officer. “We’re thrilled to bring the Opening Bell to our flagship resort to celebrate 50 years of skiing in Vail as well as Vail Resorts’ success as the leading U.S. resort operator.”

Vail Mountain is celebrating its 50th anniversary this season with more than 100 inches—or nearly nine feet—of snow and more than 5,000 skiable acres of terrain open. Vail kicked off the 50th festivities this season with the debut of a new, state-of-the-art gondola, complete with heated seats and Wi-Fi. Guests to Vail can view a special 50th anniversary film, “Vail: The Rise of America’s Iconic Ski Resort,” on select Thursdays throughout the season. The Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships presented by MINI comes to Vail, Feb. 25-March 2, followed by the “Spring Back to Vail” concerts and events, and much more.
