  • Big prizes at Northstar California lure shoppers to local businesses
  • Tacos Jalisco and Tavern 6330’ open in the Village at Northstar
  • Bath by Nature and Schaffer’s Mill Golf and Lake Club Base Camp offer California luxury

TRUCKEE, Calif. – November  28, 2012– A new era is ushered into the Village at Northstar with a locally-owned and crowd favorite taqueria, an elevated après ski experience that will even make skiers want to stay in their boots longer, and an incentive-based campaign to shop local this holiday season.

As part of the North Lake Tahoe Visitors’ Bureaus’ Shop Local Campaign, Northstar is asking employees and visitors to keep their holiday shopping dollars in our communities and spend at any of the 50+ participating shops and service providers. For every $25 spent at a participating business, shoppers will get a sticker on the back of their contest cards, which they will turn in by December 31st. All cards with three or more stickers are then eligible for a drawing of major prizes, including a Northstar ski package. Fourteen Northstar businesses are participating in the campaign including The Villager Candle Shop Pottery Painting and More, True North, Patagonia, Shoe, 001 Oakley Concept Store, Northstar Logo, North Face, Mine, Helly Hansen, Butterbox, Burton, Bath by Nature, Balance Holistic Health Spa and Ambassador Toys.

“Helping to keep the Tahoe economy alive and well is a community-wide effort, and we’re pleased so many of our village tenants are participating in the Shop Local campaign,” said Nadia Guerriero, director of Village and base area operations at Northstar.  “Not only does the community benefit when people shop locally, but through this promotion, our guests have the opportunity to be entered to win great prizes, too.”

Shoppers will have new experiences in the village shops and restaurants this season. Truckee-local favorite Tacos Jalisco recently opened its third location in the Village at Northstar, where resort guests can enjoy their delicious and familiar Authentic Mexican favorites. Tacos Jalisco offers a wide range of dining options including quick off-the hill grub and a full sit-down dinner menu with beer and wine.

The new Tavern 6330’ extends the menu options in the Village, filling the space Baxter’s once held near the gondola. An American grill with a farm-fresh California twist, Tavern 6330’ has something for everyone and provides a great atmosphere for the whole family. Situated at the base of Village Run, the extensive selection of microbrews and signature cocktails at its patio Rock Bar are sure to be the main attraction for après ski this year. Just across from the Tavern, Chocolate Bar’s new patio furniture and heaters will also meet the afternoon crowd’s demands at its outside bar, just steps away from the last run of the day.

San Francisco-based Bath by Nature brings its signature earth-friendly bath products to Tahoe for the first time. Made with nature’s best materials, the top-quality products can be personalized, making for perfect gifts or to provide the extra pampering Northstar guests may need to relax into luxury during their stay.

Schaffer’s Mill property owners can rest between runs in a new private lounge and locker room located in the Village at Northstar this year. Resort guests are also invited to stop by and learn about the 475-acre golf, lake and ski community for families named after the family-focused “Father of Truckee,” George Schaffer. Amenities at Schaffer's Mill currently include an 18-hole championship golf course, community walking trails, cross country ski trails, snow shoeing, stocked fishing ponds and Tahoe National Forest Access for hiking, biking, horseback riding and/or snowmobiling.
