A51 River Run Rail Series Presents Back to the Grind Rail Session, Opening Weekend, November 3, at Keystone Resort
KEYSTONE, Colo. — October 23, 2012 — Keystone Resort ushers in the 2012/13 season with the second event in the A51 River Run Rail Series, Back to the Grind Rail Session, Saturday, November 3, 2012. This new addition to the Keystone events calendar offers skiers and riders the chance to come out early and test their skills as well as celebrate winters official arrival at Keystone Mountain.
Not only has Keystone Resort added the already popular A51 River Rail Series as part of this winter season, but the infamous A51 terrain park that stretches over 60 acres and is inclusive of 100+ park features, 20+ jumps, it’s own dedicated park lift and night shredding (when fully open) is turning 10 years old. A51’s 10 year anniversary will be highlighted with special activation at park events such as the rail jam, and will be celebrated with a unique feature in the park this season.
With Keystone’s commitment to early season park progression, the Resort, which is set to open Friday, November 2, 2012, will offer about 25-30 features in an early season park on the trail Scout, located directly off the top of Dercum Mountain and accessed by the designated Ranger Lift. This gives skiers and riders the perfect opportunity to get their legs back after the long summer as well as practice for those who will compete in Saturday’s competition.
Saturday, November 3 will also provide event participants and spectators alike the option to shred Keystone Resort all day long, because the rail jam competition will take place under the lights after the mountain has closed for the day. The set-up will consist of a flat-down box, down rail and double kink rail at the base of the River Run face. Check-in and registration will run from 2:30-3:30 PM with the preliminaries promptly beginning at 4 PM. Women’s snowboarding will kick-off the event followed by men’s snowboarding, then women’s skiing followed by men’s skiing. Heats will occur in 15 minute increments allowing those who throw down the top-ranked tricks the ability to move on to the finals that will begin at 5:35 PM. The same order as the preliminaries will ensue, with, again, 15 minute heats for shredders to prove they have what it takes to be awarded the top spot. Awards will follow immediately after the completion of the men’s skiing finals. Prizing for the Back to the Grind Rail Session will consist of a cash purse and free entry into the 2013 Backyard BBQ Rail Jam for the top-spot in each category and swag awards for the second place finishers in each division.
At the conclusion of the awards, rail jam participants and spectators can head over to Warren Station in River Run Village for the Get Stoked Winter Film Series beginning at 7:30 PM showcasing Poor Boyz Productions WE a Collection of Individuals followed by Matchstick Productions Super Heroes of Stoke. Tickets for the Keystone film premiers are five dollars at the door.
Spectators can equally enjoy the rail jam by coming out to watch the young athletes perform on the multi-rail feature, as well as partake in the events opening weekend festivities such as music from DJ DC, food, beverages, vendor tents and crowd giveaways.
