Northstar California™ Resort Partners with Truckee River Watershed Council for Vail Resorts’ Echo Day
Northstar Employees Dedicate Time to Clean Up Truckee River Legacy Trail

TRUCKEE, Calif. – Sept. 13, 2012 – Over the weekend, 112 Northstar employees and their family members participated in the third annual Vail Resorts Echo Day, partnering with the Truckee River Watershed Council to donate their time to work on a section of the Truckee River Legacy Trail, located near the Truckee Regional Park. Participants worked on Saturday morning, September 8, to remove invasive weeds, install irrigation, mulch, and reseed the area with native plants.

“It’s pretty amazing to see 100 people working out here and the amount of work we’re going to get done in three hours,” said Lisa Wallace, member of the Truckee River Watershed Council.

Each year, local non-profit organizations are invited to submit projects to be considered for Echo Day. The project was selected by resort employees as an opportunity to give back to the community. Vail Resorts gives a cash grant to the non-profit to help cover the cost of tools, supplies and more for the project.

“It’s awesome to see how fast and how committed everyone is. We’re thrilled to work with the Truckee River Watershed Council and it’s just been a beautiful day on the river,” said Bill Rock, chief operating officer at Northstar. “The camaraderie and teamwork – it’s been so much fun. I’m sure next year’s project is going to be bigger and better than this one. I definitely encourage people to come out and help.”

The Truckee River Watershed Council brings the community “together for the Truckee.” The organization focuses on collaborative solutions for the protection, enhancement and restoration of the Truckee River Watershed.

“If you’re interested in participating in Echo Day, and you’re working at Northstar, it’s really a surprisingly good corporate project – good to bring the family to,” said Wallace.

Launched in August 2010, Vail Resorts Echo Day is an annual, company-wide volunteer day for Vail Resorts employees and their families. Focused on projects that are meaningful in the local resort communities where the company operates, Vail Resorts Echo Day hosted seven events for employees and their family and friends this past weekend, with nearly 1,100 employees participating in the projects from Tahoe to Jamaica, equating to 4,950 hours of volunteer service.
