Logan Scholarships Awarded to Vail and Beaver Creek Ski Instructors
VAIL, Colo. – Feb. 17, 2011 – Seven instructors from the Vail Snowsports School and Beaver Creek Ski and Snowboard School will be sent to the Professional Ski Instructors of America (PSIA) National Academy and 50-year Anniversary Celebration, April 4-9, 2011 in Snowmass, CO thanks to locals Kent and Vicki Logan. Established in 2002, the Logan Scholarship provides continuing education and professional growth for local instructors through their participation in the PSIA Academy.

Recipients of the Logan Scholarship are chosen based on tenure, influence as a role model to other instructors and their students, involvement in personal development, and professional representation of Vail Resorts at the Academy. Each instructor must also possess a minimum of a Level 1 PSIA certification, be a current Vail or Beaver Creek instructor and participate in or lead instructor training.

The 2010-2011 scholarship recipients include:
  • Patrick Mackeage – Vail
  • Geordy Ogden – Vail
  • Valerie Muspratt-Gross – Vail
  • Chris Caruso – Vail
  • Kim Raess – Beaver Creek
  • Leticia Harrison – Beaver Creek
  • Bob Matarese – Beaver Creek

“A big thank you goes out to Kent and Vicki Logan for their continued support of the Logan Scholarship. Because of their gracious gift, our dedicated ski school professionals at Vail and Beaver Creek have the tremendous opportunity to attend the PSIA National Academy where they can continue their education and remain on the cutting edge of snowsports instruction,” said Bobby Murphy, director of the Vail Snowsports School.

The Logans are long-time patrons of Vail. Kent has been skiing the mountain for more than 30 years. In 1985 he and his wife Vicki were married at the top of Vail Mountain, the same week Vicki learned to ski. In 1994 they purchased their first home in Vail and in 1999 became full-time residents. In addition to supporting Vail and Beaver Creek ski instructors, the couple serves on various community boards and Kent served on the Vail Town Council from 2003 to 2007. Their love of contemporary art is evident through a private art museum adjacent to their home, which they have generously shared with the local community. The Logans now divide their time between Arizona and Vail, Colo.
