Vail Mountain Bike Hauls Begin and Additional Trails Open This Weekend
  • Front nine of Vail Mountain’s disc golf course opens Friday at Adventure Ridge
VAIL, Colo. – June 17, 2010 – With recent warm temperatures and hard work from Vail Mountain operations staff, the resort is expanding its hiking and biking terrain to more than 25 miles of trails this weekend in anticipation of the official start to summer just days away. Daily operations begin Thursday, June 24.

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 18 bike hauls on the Eagle Bahn Gondola (Lift #19) and portions of the following beginner, intermediate and advanced biking and hiking trails will be offered this weekend:

Hiking Trails:
• Berrypicker
• Grand Escape
• Ridge Route

Cross-Country and Downhill Biking Trails:
• Hank’s Hideaway
• Gitalong Road
• Lion Down
• Mane Lane
• Old Nine Line (lower)
• Onza Alley
• PMT
• Village Trail

Daily operations on Vail Mountain begin Thursday, June 24.

“We’re thrilled to have a significant portion of Vail Mountain already open for summer operations and are looking forward to adding additional trails to mix as soon as they are in shape for public use,” said Julie Rust, director of Vail Ski Patrol, Yellow Jackets and Community Guest Services. “In the meantime, there is still work to be done and we advise guests to take care, remain alert and observe all posted signs and closures.”

Also available at Vail’s Adventure Ridge at Eagle’s Nest beginning Friday is the front nine of the disc golf course, suitable for all ability levels and set high atop the mountain overlooking the Vail Valley. Disc golf enthusiasts should allow one to two hours per nine holes of the self-guided course. Disc golf is free for guests who bring their own discs. Rentals are available for just $8 at Adventure Ridge.

Weekend-only scenic rides from Lionshead to Eagle’s Nest via the Eagle Bahn Gondola (Lift #19) continue this weekend. The gondola is free to current and 2010-2011 season pass holders or for children 12 and under with a paid adult (limit three children per paid adult). Lift and lunch packages are available, starting at $27 for adults.

On-mountain dining is currently available at Talon’s Deck as well as Adventure Ridge activities including horseback tours, the rebound trampoline, climbing wall and pony rides (kids ages 2-6) for just $10 each or three activities for $25.

Free activities at Adventure Ridge include a new slackline park, horseshoes, bocce ball and all-time kids favorite Dino Dig. Learn about the environment through fun, interactive displays at the Discovery Center, a cooperative arrangement between Vail Resorts, the Gore Range Natural Science School and the U.S. Forest Service. Weekends only: Friday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

June 24 – Sept. 6
Sunday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Thursday through Saturday, 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.
*Bikes are not allowed up the gondola after 4 p.m.

Sept. 10 – 19
Weekends only: Friday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
