Lower Mountain Bike Trails Open and Scenic Horseback Tours Begin on Vail Mountain
  • Ride the mountain bike trails used by the pros during the Teva Mountain Games
  • Take a horseback tour through Game Creek Bowl and see Vail Mountain like never before
VAIL, Colo. – June 9, 2010 – Horesback tours from Eagle’s Nest are returning to Vail Mountain this summer beginning Friday, June 11, thanks to continued warm temperatures. Roundtrip tours depart from Eagle’s Nest and wind through Vail’s legendary Game Creek Bowl, overlooking the Vail Valley. Summer sunset tours and rides to Game Creek Restaurant for dinner and Sunday brunch will be offered beginning Thursday, June 24.

Mountain bike enthusiasts are welcome to test their skills on the lower part of the mountain on portions of the Lion Down, Hank’s Hideaway and Onza Alley trails used by the pros during last weekend’s Teva Mountain Games. The trails are challenging with technical aspects and suitable for intermediate to advanced mountain bikers.

“We’ve been working hard to get Vail Mountain ready for summer and the bike trails on the lower portion are in great shape for riding up from the base areas,” said Julie Rust, director of Vail Ski Patrol, Yellow Jackets and Community Guest Services. “Bike hauls on the Eagle Bahn Gondola will not be available this weekend due to remaining snow on the upper mountain, but will be offered as soon as conditions permit.”

Guests to Vail Mountain can also enjoy weekend-only scenic rides from Lionshead to Eagle’s Nest via the Eagle Bahn Gondola (Lift #19), free to current and 2010-2011 season pass holders or for children 12 and under with a paid adult. Lift and lunch packages are available, starting at $27 for adults. Daily operations begin Thursday, June 24.

On-mountain dining is currently available at Talon’s Deck as well as a variety of Adventure Ridge activities including the rebound trampoline, climbing wall and pony rides (kids ages 2-6) for just $10 each or three activities for $25. Disc Golf will be offered in the coming weeks as conditions permit.

Free activities at Adventure Ridge include a new slackline park, horseshoes, bocce ball and all-time kids favorite Dino Dig. Learn about the environment through fun, interactive displays at the Discovery Center, a cooperative arrangement between Vail Resorts, the Gore Range Natural Science School and the U.S. Forest Service. Customized group programs are available. For more information please call (970) 754-4675.

All horseback tours are suitable for adults and children ages seven and older. Reservations are recommended.
