IBM has announced that WinterGreen Research has once again named IBM as the world's number one vendor based on market share for service oriented architecture (SOA), a critical segment within the overall middleware software market. This is the first of the top analyst reports for 2010 and supports internal corporate data that shows IBM retaining and expanding upon its number one ranking for the overall middleware market - a result that is anticipated to be announced by other leading analyst firms in the coming weeks.

The WinterGreen report, which analyzed the total SOA market for 2009, showed IBM increasing its marketshare and now holding a commanding 75.1 percent share of the overall market, with no other vendor capturing more than 6 percent. The base requirement for a smarter infrastructure, SOA is critical for companies seeking to integrate their processes to help them run more efficiently and identify new business opportunities.

"IBM dominates the SOA Web services markets because of its broad set of software integration capabilities, backed by a strong global services team," said Susan Eustis, President WinterGreen Research. "SOA is a key indicator of middleware leadership as it reaches into every industry and every segment of the economy."

IBM's continued leadership in middleware marketshare has been a key reason for the company's strong growth. Software - in particular middleware, which represented 63 percent of software revenue in the fourth quarter of 2009 - has become the growth engine for IBM and helping to drive continued successes in global markets.
