According to the report authors Carsten Casper and Tom Scholtz, a strong positive rating indicates that a vendor is viewed as a provider of strategic products, services or solutions, with whom existing customers should continue planned investments and potential customers should consider a strong choice for strategic investments. Evaluation criteria included: overall viability (business unit, financial, strategy, organization), geographic strategy, offering (product) strategy, marketing strategy and customer experience.

IBM's ISS division also received a "Positive" rating in Gartner's report entitled "MarketScope for Managed Security Services in Asia/Pacific."(2)

"In my opinion, Gartner's Managed Security Services MarketScope reports for Europe and Asia/Pacific help confirm that IBM ISS consistently provides our customers with the expertise and global presence that they are seeking in security management," said Dan Powers, vice president, IBM's Internet Security Systems. "IBM Internet Security Systems also tightly integrates with IBM's broad services portfolio, providing the experience and breadth of offerings - from dedicated research, software, hardware, services and global business partners - for a holistic customer approach to threat detection and blocking."

IBM ISS offers a comprehensive range of services that support technologies from a variety of security vendors, including firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, unified threat management, security event and log management, vulnerability management, e-mail and Web security.
