Today, Astellas formally launched Corporate Strategic Plan 2026 (CSP2026) – our five-year, self-funded strategy that will shape our sustainable growth. This milestone represents the culmination of discussions among Astellas team members and Top Management, involving strong collaboration, clear goals, and a commitment to our Values and Behaviors.
To complement the details of CSP2026, we would also like to share this 'behind the scenes' look into the creation of our new strategy.
From the outset, the design of CSP2026 involved a wide range of stakeholders to ensure that the strategy reflected the needs and ideas of the broader company. We wanted CSP2026 to be built by the organization, not just for the organization. This process included extensive formal and informal sessions with Top Management, Board of Directors meetings, and numerous workshops with leaders from across the company. In particular, the CSP2026 team leveraged the face-to-face Astellas Leadership Summit in November 2025 as a midpoint opportunity to preview the latest strategic thinking with all Functional Unit Heads and to gather their feedback.
"Our previous CSP2021 was developed in a strong spirit of collaboration. For CSP2026, we took that commitment even further, having multiple touchpoints with Astellas leaders throughout the year," said Peter Sandor, Head of Corporate Strategy. "These moments allowed us to share ideas, debate different choices, and agree on the strongest business options, all of which will position us for success as we now move into execution phase."

There is a well-known expression, often attributed to Blaise Pascal: "I wrote a long letter because I did not have time to write a shorter one." For CSP2026, Astellas purposely took the time to write the 'shorter letter.' We worked to carefully define our Strategic Goals and created a focused plan that will allow us to achieve them. The four Strategic Goals within CSP2026 are:
"The CSP2026 workshop conversations that took place throughout the year all echoed the same sentiment – please keep it focused," said Yuta Fukuda, Head of Enterprise Strategy. "We believe that the focused structure of the plan will help make it easier for all of our stakeholders to understand our goals and priorities."
Our Organizational Values and Behaviors form the core of Astellas' culture and are the foundation of CSP2026. They will continue to guide our ways of working throughout our journey over the next five years.
"When I think about the development of CSP2026, I see every one of our Values and Behaviors in action,” said Katsuyoshi Sugita, Chief People Officer. “This includes a strong One Astellas approach to building our strategy, alongside the Courage to challenge ideas, learn from one another, and openly share insights. Each individual also brought a strong Sense of Urgency and Outcome Focus, together with a deep sense of Accountability. Because our Values and Behaviors were deeply embedded in everyone involved, we were able to stay focused, on track, and on time."

CSP2026 is an important moment in time for Astellas. The next five years will be crucial as we work to create and deliver greater VALUE faster for patients.
As we begin this journey, we know that success will depend on the collective work and spirit of thousands of Astellas employees and partners around the world. The path may not always be smooth as we navigate an ever-evolving healthcare landscape. However, we take this first step with confidence in our ability to deliver – and a commitment to our VISION to be on the forefront of healthcare change to turn innovative science into VALUE for patients.
