Evergy crews deployed to help with power restoration in hurricane struck areas

Crews bound for eastern Kentucky.

Kansas City, Mo., Sept. 27, 2024 – Evergy crews will depart Saturday morning bound for Ashland, Ky., to help restore power to the more than 4 million people left without power from Hurricane Helene.

About 120 Evergy employees, including line crews and support personnel, will spend up to two weeks in the hills of Kentucky rebuilding the power grid and restoring power. Evergy personnel from across our Kansas and Missouri service area are going to assist AEP Kentucky. About 200 line contractors who assist on Evergy’s property are headed east to help Duke Indiana with hurricane cleanup in Plainfield, Ind.

An army of 50,000 workers from at more than 30 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada is dedicated to the Helene response and restoration effort.

Evergy is a member of the Midwest Mutual Assistance Group, which enables us to call upon neighboring utilities and their contractors to help restore service after a significant event such as a severe storm. In return, we assist neighboring utilities when they are in need. In the event of catastrophic damage, utilities reach out for assistance from across the nation.
