Final Week for Evergy Customers to Apply for LIEAP

Kansas’ Low-Income Energy Assistance Program Ends March 29

Topeka, KS – March 25, 2024 – This is the final week that Evergy’s Kansas customers can apply for the state’s Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP). Applications must be completed by the end of the business day on Friday, March 29.

LIEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their home energy costs by providing a one-time benefit per year.

Kansas residents who need assistance applying for LIEAP can call Evergy’s Wichita Connect team at 316-440-2070 to sign up for a virtual appointment.

Customers should have:

  • Identification
  • Social Security numbers for all household members
  • Proof of Income for all permanent individuals in the home who are 18 years or older
  • Copy of lease (only if Section 8)
  • Copies of utility bills (gas, electric, propane, wood, etc.)

This is also the last week that the Cold Weather Rule will be in effect. Under the Cold Weather Rule, Evergy does not disconnect customers for nonpayment when temperatures are below the cold weather rule threshold: 35 degrees in Kansas and 32 degrees in Missouri.
