DISH is in the unique position of building a greenfield network, starting with NB-IoT, with a clear path to 5G

Plano, Texas and Englewood, Colo., November 6, 2018 – DISH Network (NASDAQ: DISH) has selected Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) to deliver a radio access and core network for DISH’s Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT) network slated for completion in March 2020.

Ericsson leveraged its global wireless radio expertise to complete the initial radio frequency (RF) design for DISH’s nationwide NB-IoT network earlier this year.

“DISH is in the unique position of building a greenfield network, starting with NB-IoT, with a clear path to 5G,” said Niklas Heuveldop, President and Head of Ericsson North America. “We are excited that DISH has decided to partner with Ericsson to address the IoT opportunity. We believe that NB-IoT holds great potential for both consumers and businesses across the U.S.”

Ericsson and DISH Network have validated NB-IoT data transmissions based on the 3GPP standards, including, for the first time in the United States, extended range connections up to 100km from a base station.

DISH’s network will include Ericsson Radio System NR-capable radios. DISH has also installed, commissioned and successfully completed interoperability testing of the Ericsson Cloud Core network.

“Ericsson’s wireless expertise has been central to our initial deployment,” said Tom Cullen, DISH executive vice president of Corporate Development. “In addition to planning and deployment, Ericsson will be a key partner in certifying compliance with DISH’s coverage specifications.”

Ericsson is the first wireless vendor DISH has announced for its network deployment.
