CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust Awards $67,000 Dollars to Three Non-Profit Organizations in Connecticut

The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust, the private foundation managed by CVS Corporation , announced today that it has awarded $67,000 in grants to three non-profit organizations in Connecticut.

"We are pleased to support these very worthy charities that are working hard in our communities to improve people's lives," said Eileen Howard Dunn, Vice President of the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust. "A CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust grant is an effective way for us to give back to the communities where we do business," stated Howard Dunn.

Grants were awarded to organizations dedicated to healthcare, education and community engagement. "The foundation focuses on those projects that clearly demonstrate they are meeting a need within the community, and where collaborative efforts and measurement tools are in place to track success. We are confident that each of the non-profits we chose to work with in the coming year will create positive change and influence in the communities we serve together," said Howard Dunn.

In many cases, CVS/pharmacy associates become involved with grantees by providing volunteer assistance, participating in other fund-raisers and assisting in outreach and education services.

Connecticut based organizations that received a grant from the CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust are:

The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

Description of grant: Founded by Paul Newman in 1988 as a non-profit residential camp and year round center designed to serve children and families coping with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Each summer, more than 1,000 children ages 7-15 attend for free. The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust is assisting in funding a new facility, which will include 20 bedrooms, and 12 bathrooms and the new facility will provide additional housing in summer months for staff and volunteers.

  Community Partnerships

Description of grant: The Child Passenger Safety Program educates parents on how to properly install their child's safety seats & how to correctly restrain the child in the seat. In addition, the program provides free child safety seats to low-income families. Funding would allow the organization to continue serving the community by providing child safety seats to families whom otherwise couldn't afford them.

  Harbor Health Services, Inc.

Description of grant: The CVS/pharmacy Charitable Trust will support the pharmacy fund at Harbor Health Service. The pharmacy fund assists patients, who have psychiatric, or substance abuse treatment and who are unable to afford prescription medication.
