April 18, 2023 – Chants of “U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A!” filled the CLT terminal lobby on Feb. 20, when the USA women’s national field hockey team returned from qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games.
Fans and loved ones were waiting with posters, balloons, flowers and hugs.
The elite athletes punched their ticket to Paris during a qualifying tournament in India.
This is the USA team’s first Olympic appearance since 2016, when they finished fifth. The team has medaled once, earning the bronze in the 1984 Los Angeles games.
The team, known as the United Eagles, trains at the U.S. Performance Center at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. The USA national archery and taekwondo teams train there as well.
