In a separate CareerBuilder UK study, 56 per cent of employers reported that they plan to hire temporary or contract workers in 2014. Of these employers, 44 per cent plan to transition some temporary employees into full-time, permanent staff.

"Coming off of multiple hard-hitting recessions, companies are being more cautious with their permanent hiring," said Scott Helmes, Managing Director of CareerBuilder UK. "Temporary employment is growing across industries and regions, and provides great opportunities for employers to work with a larger pool of diverse talent, while allowing workers to test-drive different work experiences and network with employers."

The regions that are projected to add the most temporary jobs, outpacing the 0.3 per cent job growth projected for all jobs, in 2014 are:

"Because of London's high population, we often see the most employment activity in that area," said Dr. Sanja Licina, Sr. Director of Workforce Analytics at CareerBuilder. "For temp workers, however, we are experiencing even greater growth in other regions. This is encouraging for economic recovery across the nation, but will likely bring new hiring challenges to companies looking to bring on temporary staff across the country."
