BNY Mellon Appoints Michelle Goldstein Head of State and Local Government Relations

Nov 4, 2013

NEW YORK, November 4, 2013 BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, has appointed Michelle Goldstein managing director and head of state and local government relations. She is based in New York and reports to Ann Costello, global head of government affairs.

In her role, Goldstein will act as the liaison for BNY Mellon to state and local governments with a particular emphasis on New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts where BNY Mellon has its major facilities and employee presence. This will be a key position which will allow BNY Mellon to strengthen its relationships in state and local communities and to focus more strongly on its ability to serve the needs of the public sector.

Prior to joining the company, Goldstein was the executive director of federal affairs in the New York City Office of the Mayor, where she was the Mayor's chief advocate and strategist on all matters before the Obama Administration and the U.S. Congress. Before being appointed to that position by Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg in January 2010, she served as a member of the Mayor's senior management team as the director of state legislative affairs, where she managed lobbying operations in Albany. Before joining the Bloomberg Administration, Goldstein was director of government affairs for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and previously held various government relations positions for the City of New York.

"Michelle played a major role in driving our agenda and really was one of the stars of our Administration," said Mayor Michael Bloomberg. "Actions in Washington and Albany -- and inactions -- have a major impact on New York City, and we could always rely on Michelle's strategic guidance to put us in the best position to succeed. Whether it was helping us to retain control of the City's public school system or helping to deliver federal aid following Hurricane Sandy, Michelle was an indispensable part of our Administration's success. While we are going to miss her, I wish her nothing but the best at BNY Mellon. The company really made a great hire."

"Given the critical role our company plays in the global capital markets, we need to be involved in public policy development and advocacy that impacts our business, clients and employees," said Costello. "Michelle's deep experience in a variety of senior government affairs roles will be invaluable as we engage with policymakers and elected officials across the country."
