Standish-Managed Fund Noted for Consistently Outperforming Comparative Index and Achieving Lower Volatility

LONDON, 19 October, 2012 — The BNY Mellon Emerging Markets Debt Fund, managed by Standish Mellon Asset Management Company LLC, has been named the emerging markets debt fund of the year by Investment Europe, a leading financial publication based in London.

Standish is the Boston-based fixed income specialist for BNY Mellon.

In naming the BNY Mellon fund as the winner in the emerging markets debt category, the publication in October said the Standish team "has consistently outperformed the comparative index and achieved lower volatility than many of its peers."

The BNY Mellon Emerging Markets Debt Fund focuses on U.S. dollar-denominated emerging market bonds issued by sovereign, quasi-sovereign, corporate, and supranational entities. It selects the most attractive bonds from a risk-adjusted standpoint. The fund draws on the resources of the dedicated emerging markets debt team, with investment capabilities in Boston, London, and Singapore. The team manages nearly $13 billion in emerging markets debt.

The fund is not available to U.S. investors.

"The rigorous quantitative and qualitative processes that were implemented in the selection process make the Investment Europe award particularly prestigious," said Alexander V. Kozhemiakin, managing director and head of the emerging markets team at Standish.

The quantitative screening, which narrowed the list of funds to eight finalists for each category, incorporated data from three leading providers to evaluate the cumulative returns of the funds under consideration for the three-year period that ended May 31, 2012, according to Investment Europe.

The finalists were then reviewed by a panel of 10 distinguished industry experts from across Europe, as well as editors from Investment Europe and affiliated operations, the publication said.

Desmond Mac Intyre, chairman and chief executive officer of Standish said, "We are proud that our emerging markets team has delivered impressive results in a challenging environment."

"We are delighted by the performance of the Standish team," said PeterPaul Pardi, global head of distribution for BNY Mellon Investment Management. "Their results are highly valued by our clients."
