Session in Los Angeles marks seventh event in continuing series

NEW YORK, October 8, 2012 — BNY Mellon Capital Markets and KPN Consulting today announced a fall event in Southern California as part of a continuing series of educational outreach seminars designed to help community bank professionals meet the new CAMELS (Capital Adequacy, Asset Quality, Management, Earnings, Liquidity, and Sensitivity to Market) assessment criteria mandated under Dodd-Frank. Sponsored by the California Bankers Association and entitled, "Capital Planning and the Future of Community Banking," the next seminar in the series will take place on October 25-26 in Los Angeles.

Dedicated to the topics of safety & soundness and capital planning, the seminars are being conducted by BNY Mellon Capital Markets and KPN Consulting under the sponsorship of state banking associations. Seminar participants include representatives from state and federal regulatory agencies and balance sheet management experts from BNY Mellon Capital Markets, LLC.

"The positive turnout for the seminars conducted to date — several hundred participants at seven sessions — shows that community bankers are seeking quality education on the topic of stress-testing and the impact of CAMELS," said Eric Nelson, executive vice president of KPN Consulting. "The approach being taken in the series to meeting this need — having bank regulators and industry experts speaking candidly on this topic and other important issues facing all community bankers — has been well received."

"As a broker dealer services provider operating as part of a company with BNY Mellon's strategic focus on financial strength and stability, we fully appreciate the importance of CAMELS concerns," said Gary Strumeyer, president of BNY Mellon Capital Markets. "Collaborating with KPN Consulting on this series of educational seminars has provided us with the perfect forum for sharing our insights and perspectives with the community banking community."
