BNY Mellon investment boutique provides ongoing support to UK charity industry

LONDON , 07 September 2012 — Newton*, the global thematic investment manager for BNY Mellon, announced plans to run a training session specifically designed for the UK charity sector in London on 2 October 2012. New and existing charity trustees seeking to improve their knowledge, as well as those who would welcome a refresher, are likely to find this session of interest. The event will be run in conjunction with UK legal firm, Stone King Solicitors.

Andrew Pitt, Head of Charities at Newton comments: "Managing a fund effectively in the current economic and regulatory climate is challenging. The complexity in today's markets requires trustees to have a knowledge and understanding of investment issues as they relate to charities. These requirements continue to make the role of a trustee ever more demanding. With that in mind, Newton is pleased to offer this session to help charity trustees and others who are interested in investment related issues to gain further information."

The half-day session will include the following topics:

  • Introduction to the main asset classes
  • Basic rules for long term investors
  • The legal requirements for charity trustees
  • Developing an investment policy
  • The relationship between risk and return
  • The considerations when choosing an investment manager
  • Investment outlook.

Managing £4.3bn of assets for over 300 UK charities, Newton is recognised in the UK as being one of the largest managers of charity assets¹. Newton's Charities Business team has extensive experience in managing portfolios for charities and other specialist institutions. All investment mandates are managed in line with Newton’s distinct global thematic investment process, which harnesses Newton’s substantial in-house research. The training will take place at Newton Investment Management, BNY Mellon Centre, 160 Queen Victoria Street, EC4V 4LA and will run from 1230 to 1730 hours and will be followed by drinks and canapés. Full details of the training session can be found at www.newton.co.uk.
