Newly Created Position Underscores Company's Commitment and Ambition to Become One of the Premier Investment Firms in Asia-Pacific

NEW YORK and HONG KONG, August 9, 2012 — BNY Mellon, the world leader in investment management and investment services, has today named Paul Schulte to the newly created position of Head of Investment Strategy, Asia-Pacific (APAC), where he will be responsible for researching investment trends, market activity and economics in APAC.

Based in Hong Kong, Schulte will report into both Alan Harden, chief executive officer for BNY Mellon's Asia-Pacific investment management business and Jack Malvey, Chief Global Market Strategist for investment management, located in New York.

Schulte will focus on developing an APAC investment and market knowledge platform that will help capture and communicate the APAC investment opinion and analysis from across the firm's investment management boutiques, and support the firm's global thinking.  He joins BNY Mellon's APAC Investment Management Executive Committee and BNY Mellon's APAC Operating Committee.

"Paul joins our team at an exciting point in our evolution from an APAC distributor, to a regional product innovator and global preferred provider of Asian investment strategies," observed BNY Mellon's Harden. "Having a rigorous investment strategy and research approach is vital in supporting our managers in making active and informed investment decisions. We will look to Paul to interpret macro trends throughout this fast-growing region, and to participate in the development of top-performing investment strategies and products for Asian investors."

Schulte's career in equity research spans 25 years on both the buy and sell sides covering the Asian and emerging markets. He frequently has been ranked in top-five positions in Euromoney, Asiamoney and Institutional Investor polls and surveys since 1991. In Institutional Investor's 2010 poll, he received top rankings in All-Asia Banks Team, Asia Equity Strategy Team and Asia Economics Team. He also has experience in the military, public policy and academia.

He marketed to sovereign wealth funds, hedge funds and long only institutions and spent much time with Chinese regulators.

From 2007 to 2010, he was Managing Director and Head of Multi-Strategy and Asia Banks' Research for Lehman Brothers and then at Nomura International.
