$25,000 corporate gift helps fund food programs for those with critical, chronic illnesses

BOSTON, May 29, 2012 — BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, is supporting Community Servings as a presenting sponsor of LifeSavor 2012 with a $25,000 contribution made possible through the BNY Mellon Charitable Giving Program.  LifeSavor 2012, the nonprofit's annual spring gala, is being held on Thursday, May 31 at The Langham Boston hotel and will be co-chaired by Joannie Jaxtimer, BNY Mellon's regional executive for New England.  This marks the third straight year a BNY Mellon executive has chaired the event.

Community Servings is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program providing services throughout Massachusetts to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses.  Its LifeSavor event was launched in 1993 by members of the restaurant community as a way for Boston's chefs, caterers and restaurateurs to support Community Servings in its mission to serve people struggling with life-threatening illnesses.

"Community Servings' mission of providing its clients with both basic needs and workforce development programs fits perfectly with our company's focus on supporting organizations that help people stay connected to critical services," said Jaxtimer.  "BNY Mellon New England is a long-time supporter of Community Servings, having invested more than $150,000 in grants through our charitable giving program and corporate sponsorships since 2006, and we're proud to once again be partnering with them for their 20th LifeSavor gala."

Founded in 1989, Community Servings delivers more than 355,000 free meals per year to the critically ill, their caregivers, and dependent children across eastern Massachusetts.  In addition to its meals program, it also offers nutrition education and counseling, food service job training, weekly farmer's markets, and a program that welcomes recent parolees into its kitchen as volunteers.

BNY Mellon, whose local roots date back to 1875 and the Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Company, has about 4,000 employees in five major locations across greater Boston.

BNY Mellon's global corporate social responsibility program focuses on strong governance, comprehensive reporting, employee engagement and diversity, community support, environmental sustainability and supply chain responsibility.  As part of this focus, the company's Community Partnership program supports employee volunteer efforts and matches employee contributions, and its Powering Potential philanthropic efforts help meet basic needs and promote workforce development.  For more, visit bnymellon.com/csr.
