Outreach program to help community banks achieve CAMELS assessment objectives mandated by Dodd-Frank

NEW YORK, May 8, 2012 — BNY Mellon today announced the expansion of a new educational outreach program designed to help community bank professionals meet the new CAMELS (Capital adequacy, Asset quality, Management, Earnings, Liquidity and Sensitivity to Market) assessment criteria mandated under Dodd-Frank.

The outreach program includes a series of safety and soundness seminars conducted under the sponsorship of state banking associations and delivered in collaboration with KPN Consulting, a leading provider of consulting services to community banks.  Seminar participants will include representatives from state and federal regulatory agencies and balance sheet management experts from BNY Mellon Capital Markets LLC.  The next seminar in the series will take place on May 15-16 in San Francisco, sponsored by the Western Independent Bankers (WIB).

"A number of our banking industry clients have asked us to expand the scope of our seminars to include capital markets experts who can provide real-world perspectives on the options available to community banks in addressing capital adequacy and other balance sheet concerns," said Karl Nelson, president and chief executive officer of KPN Consulting.  "BNY Mellon Capital Markets' experience, subject matter expertise and commitment to supporting their community bank clients make them an ideal partner."

"Our participation in several successful CAMELS seminars has given us a first-hand appreciation for the importance of this topic to community bank leaders," said Gary Strumeyer, president of BNY Mellon Capital Markets.  "Collaborating with KPN Consulting on our educational outreach program for 2012 is a great way for us to share practical perspectives on capital management strategies and to help community banks meet critical regulatory and compliance objectives."
