Hiring of Former Illinois State Treasurer Is Part of Strategic Growth Plan to Hire Six New Staff

NEW YORK and CHICAGO, January 11, 2012 — BNY Mellon's wealth management business has hired Alexi Giannoulias as Senior Advisor for Strategic Relationships serving both the wealth management business in Chicago and the BNY Mellon corporate entity nationally. Giannoulias, a former Illinois State treasurer and currently adjunct professor of political science at Northwestern University, reports to Michael DiMedio, president of the Chicago region.

In this newly created position, Giannoulias will be responsible for business development for the Chicago wealth management office and for strengthening the company's client relationships with government entities across the U.S. His strong ties to the business community, background in financial services and extensive political experience make him uniquely qualified for the role. From 2007 to 2011 he served as Illinois state treasurer and was responsible for a $14 billion portfolio. In the 2010 election, he ran as the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama. Crain's Chicago Business named him to its 2007 "40 under 40" list, which recognizes emerging leaders in the city.

"Building on our acquisition of Talon Asset Management's business last year, BNY Mellon is actively strengthening our firm's presence in Chicago. This is the 3rd largest wealth market in the U.S. and very important to us strategically," DiMedio said. "We believe Alexi's proven commitment in the community, experience in public service and record of leadership will help us grow in delivering our world-class financial service capabilities to high net worth Chicagoans and the greater Chicagoland market." This coming year BNY Mellon plans to add six new positions in its Chicago wealth management office, DiMedio added.

Giannoulias earned his Juris Doctor from Tulane University in New Orleans, and his undergraduate degree from Boston University. He is a member of the Illinois bar and chairs the Illinois Community College Board. Additionally he serves on the boards of the Illinois Education Foundation and the Chicago Children's Advocacy Center.
