Andrew Gordon named Custodian Banker of the Year - Asia-Pacific

HONG KONG, November 23, 2011 – BNY Mellon's Alternative Investment Services (AIS) division received top industry recognition at Asian Investor's 2011 Service Provider Awards last night in Hong Kong, winning the Best Alternatives Administrator Award.  Andrew Gordon, Head of Alternative & Broker-Dealer Services – Asia-Pacific at BNY Mellon, was also named Custodian Banker of the Year – Asia-Pacific.

Commenting on the awards, Steve Lackey, Chairman of Asia-Pacific at BNY Mellon, said: "We value recognition such as this as a strong reflection of our efforts each day to anticipate and deliver what our clients want. We are delighted that Andrew has won this illustrious award as it is clearly recognition of his respected and influential position within the industry."

This is the third award BNY Mellon's Alternatives Investment Services team in Asia has won in 2011.  The team scooped the award for Best Fund Administrator for Alternative Products for the second year in Asia Asset Management magazine's 2010 'Best of the Best' Awards in January 2011.  The team was also recognised in The Asset magazine's Triple A Transaction Banking Awards in March 2011, claiming the Best Fund Administrator – Hedge Funds award for the second year.

"We've worked hard to deliver the tools, technology and transparency Asian hedge fund clients and investors are demanding, including innovative solutions such as 'prime custody' and our recently launched middle office offering," said BNY Mellon's Gordon.  "Recognition like this is noteworthy because it validates and reinforces our commitment to clients and the investments we're making in the region to better serve them. We are very proud to accept this award."

Asian Investor's Annual Service Provider Awards recognise individuals and firms in the Asian securities servicing industry for exceptional performance, influence, innovation and commitment to the industry.  The Asian Investor Custodian Banker of the Year category is awarded to a senior executive who has made a notable contribution to both his own company's profile and standing in the market, and who has also contributed to the better knowledge, functioning and understanding of the market as a whole.  Previous winners of this award include Chong Jin Leow, Head of BNY Mellon's Asia Asset Servicing business, who was honoured with this accolade in 2009.

A former head of international securities lending, Gordon was involved in the formation of The Bank of New York's London securities lending desk in the early 1990's, and in March 1994 relocated to Hong Kong where he established the Hong Kong securities lending desk and associated client relationship and management functions. Gordon has over 20 years global securities services experience and has also held a variety of positions within BNY Mellon based in London, New York, Tokyo and Hong Kong, since joining the company in 1985.  He assumed the role of Head of the Alternatives and Broker-Dealer Services team in Asia-Pacific in 2008 and is also the Manager of BNY Mellon's Hong Kong branch.
