Event Reinforces Company's Support for Returning Military Personnel

NEW YORK, November 8, 2011 — BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, will hold a "Salute to Veterans" event on November 9, 2011, in honor of Veterans Day and the brave men and women who have served the United States.

At the event, BNY Mellon Chairman, CEO and President Gerald Hassell will be joined by Col. David Sutherland, Special Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff - Warrior and Family Support. Also in attendance will be representatives from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and nonprofit organizations serving veterans and their families that receive BNY Mellon support, including the American Red Cross, Wounded Warrior Project, Fisher House Foundation and The Jericho Project.

"As Veteran's Day approaches, it is critical to remember the sacrifice the men and women in our military have made for this great country. In particular, as troops come home, we ask that all Americans focus on helping a war veteran, especially those wounded in battle, integrate into civilian society," said Col. Sutherland.

BNY Mellon combines a wide variety of targeted efforts to support returning military personnel. In recent years, the company has provided more than $1 million in support to several veterans' organizations in the United States and United Kingdom, including Community Hope, Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans Consortium, HELP USA, New England Center for Homeless Veterans, Sesame Workshop, Veterans Leadership Program, and Coming Home.

In addition, BNY Mellon blends its financial support with efforts that support veterans through formal employee, community and academic initiatives.

"Our Salute to Veterans event spotlights a strategic commitment by our company to help returning military personnel successfully transition from military to civilian life," said Daisey Holmes, managing director of Corporate Affairs at BNY Mellon. "By combining all our efforts into a unified global program, we can have a meaningful impact in helping to honor and support these great men and women."

BNY Mellon's global corporate social responsibility program focuses on strong governance, comprehensive reporting, employee engagement and diversity, community support, environmental sustainability and supply chain responsibility. As part of this focus, the company's Community Partnership program supports employee volunteer efforts and matches employee contributions, and its Powering Potential philanthropic efforts help meet basic needs and promote workforce development.
