BNY Mellon Joins Forces with Operation Warm to Provide New Winter Coats to More Than 10,000 Youth

NEW YORK, November 1, 2011 — BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, announced today it has joined forces with Operation Warm to give away more than 10,000 new winter coats to children in need in New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Newark.  The company provides funding for the purchase of new coats, and employees will volunteer at several coat distribution events in the coming weeks.  

The new coats come in sizes to fit preschoolers through 6th graders and kids will get to choose from a range of exciting colors.  

"With the increasing struggles that families are facing, we are proud to partner with BNY Mellon to be able to offer the gift of warmth to children in New York, Boston, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Newark," said Carey Palmquist, executive director for Operation Warm.  

"It's extremely gratifying to bring warmth and peace of mind to thousands of children preparing to face another long, cold winter," said Daisey Holmes, managing director of Corporate Affairs at BNY Mellon. "This effort highlights our Powering Potential philanthropic focus, which assists the most vulnerable members of our communities by providing for basic needs, such as food, shelter, clothing, job training and placement assistance."

BNY Mellon employees will help distribute coats at the following events in New York:

  • Children's Aid Society at the Dunlevy Milbank Center in Harlem, on Wednesday, November 2, from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m.
  • Good Shepherd Services at their Neighborhood Family Empowerment Center in the Bronx, on Thursday, November 10, from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
  • NY Foundling at the Haven Academy in the Bronx, on Monday, November 14, from 12:00 - 4:30 p.m.  

Specific dates for future events in New York with Leake & Watts and the Coalition for the Homeless are in development.
