Program with Shingo Kunieda to highlight excellence and diversity

TOKYO, 16 May 2011 – BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment servicing, has announced a partnership with Shingo Kunieda, the world's number one ranked professional wheelchair tennis player and 2007-2010 international tennis federation wheelchair world champion.

The sponsorship spotlights the accomplishments of those with disabilities and all who overcome adversity through outstanding dedication and perseverance. It also is intended to highlight BNY Mellon's commitment to its clients and employees in Japan, where Kunieda is well known, in the wake of the recent catastrophe.

The sponsorship includes placement of the BNY Mellon logo on the tennis shirts that Kunieda will wear in major tournaments. Kunieda will also take part of a number of BNY Mellon events with both employees and clients.

"We are proud to work with an outstanding athlete such as Shingo Kunieda, who has been dominating his sport for the last four years," said Thom Fisher, head of the Tokyo branch and Japan country executive for BNY Mellon. "He sets an excellent example for those seeking to be outstanding in their specialties, whether they are corporations or individuals."

"Shingo Kunieda has overcome significant obstacles to achieve his successes," added Steve Lackey, chairman of Asia-Pacific for BNY Mellon. "We hope this sponsorship will contribute to the creation of opportunities for the disabled and encourage all companies to demonstrate their commitment to diversity and inclusion."
