$50,000 corporate gift helps fund food programs for those with critical, chronic illnesses

BOSTON, March 31, 2011 — BNY Mellon, the global leader in investment management and investment services, is supporting Community Servings as a title sponsor of LifeSavor 2011 with a $50,000 contribution made possible through the BNY Mellon Charitable Giving Program. LifeSavor 2011, the nonprofit's annual spring gala, is being held on Thursday, March 31 at The Langham Boston hotel and will be chaired by Joannie Jaxtimer, BNY Mellon's managing director of Corporate Affairs in Boston. This marks BNY Mellon's third year as a title sponsor of LifeSavor and the second straight year a BNY Mellon executive has chaired the event.

Community Servings is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program providing services throughout Massachusetts to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. Its LifeSavor event was launched in 1993 by members of the restaurant community as a way for Boston's chefs, caterers and restaurateurs to support Community Servings in its mission to serve people struggling with life-threatening illnesses.

"BNY Mellon New England is a long-time partner with Community Servings, having invested more than $130,000 in grants through our charitable giving program and corporate sponsorships since 2006," said Jaxtimer. "Its mission of providing home-based nutritional support combined with its offering of food service job training makes Community Servings a perfect embodiment of our company's philanthropic focus by providing its clients with both basic needs and workforce development programs."

Several BNY Mellon employee teams have volunteered at Community Servings, donating their time as well as money that is matched through the company's gift matching program.

Founded in 1989, Community Servings delivers 377,000 free meals per year to the critically ill, their caregivers, and dependent children across eastern Massachusetts. In addition to its meals program, it also offers nutrition education and counseling, food service job training, weekly farmer's markets, and a program that welcomes recent parolees into its kitchen as volunteers.

BNY Mellon, whose local roots date back to 1875 and the Boston Safe Deposit & Trust Company, has about 4,000 employees in five major locations across greater Boston.

BNY Mellon's global corporate social responsibility program focuses on strong governance, comprehensive reporting, employee engagement and diversity, community support, environmental sustainability and supply chain responsibility. As part of this focus, the company's Community Partnership program supports employee volunteer efforts and matches employee contributions, and its Powering Potential philanthropic efforts help meet basic needs and promote workforce development.
