Sponsorship and program support highlights focus on basic needs and workforce development

BOSTON, January 25, 2011 — BNY Mellon, the global leader in asset management and securities servicing, is supporting Dress for Success Boston as a presenting sponsor with a $25,000 contribution at the nonprofit's fifth annual luncheon, being held on Friday, January 28 at The Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel. Vicary Graham, president of New England for BNY Mellon Wealth Management, will chair the event, the third straight year a BNY Mellon executive has served in that role.

Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing them with professional attire, a network of support and career development tools.

"BNY Mellon is committed to partnering with communities where our employees live and work, and Dress for Success Boston presents us with a unique opportunity to do that," said Graham. "Through this program, we're able to make a real difference in the lives of local women, helping them achieve financial freedom and become self-sufficient."

"BNY Mellon New England is a long-time partner with Dress for Success, having invested more than $100,000 in grants and sponsorships since 2006," said Joannie Jaxtimer, BNY Mellon's managing director of Corporate Affairs in Boston. "Dress for Success perfectly embodies our company's philanthropic focus by providing its clients with both basic needs and workforce development programs."

In addition to grant support, a group of approximately 12 executives in BNY Mellon Wealth Management worked with Dress for Success to create a Financial Literacy Program that was offered to the organization's Professional Women's Group last spring. The eight-week seminar covered a wide range of subjects, including the basics of personal money management, investing and home-buying.

Founded in 1997, Dress for Success has served more than 550,000 women around the world through its many programs, including its Suiting program, which provides women with suits for interviews and additional apparel upon starting work; its Professional Women's Group, which offers employed women workshops on various topics, such as communication skills and financial literacy, as well as networking opportunities; and its Career Centers, which provide clients with career guidance, technology skills and support in their job searches.

BNY Mellon has about 4,000 employees in greater Boston.

BNY Mellon's global corporate social responsibility program focuses on strong governance, comprehensive reporting, employee engagement and diversity, community support, environmental sustainability and supply chain responsibility. As part of this focus, the company's Community Partnership program supports employee volunteer efforts and matches employee contributions, and its Powering Potential philanthropic efforts help meet basic needs and promote workforce development.
